Over 1,000 imaging experts to converge on Tampere for IEEE ICIP 2026
More than 1,000 imaging researchers, technology experts and industry leaders will attend the IEEE ICIP 2026 conference at Tampere Hall from 13–17 September.
Held in Tampere for the first time, the IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP) will showcase advances that touch everyday devices and high-end systems alike. Expect everything from smartphone cameras and medical imaging to autonomous vehicles, industrial automation, immersive media and AI-powered visual applications.
ICIP is one of the world’s leading gatherings for image processing research and industry collaboration. The programme includes internationally renowned keynote speakers in computational imaging, machine learning and inverse problems, alongside an industry track of opening talks, panel discussions, workshops, technology demonstrations and exhibits by major companies. Organisers say the event aims to accelerate ideas from academic labs into commercial products.
"ICIP 2026 offers a unique opportunity to showcase Tampere’s position as one of the world’s leading centres for imaging education, research and innovation. We are proud to welcome the international imaging community to Tampere," said Atanas Gotchev of Tampere University, Chair of the IEEE ICIP 2026 Organising Committee.
Tampere’s selection as host reflects a dense local imaging ecosystem that includes Tampere University and more than 25 firms working in mobile imaging, machine vision, computational photography and immersive technology. Oliver Hussey, Director of Foreign Direct Investment at Business Tampere, said "Tampere was selected as the host city partly because of the close collaboration between the university, companies and public organisations such as Business Tampere. This collaboration has helped Tampere develop into an internationally recognised hub of expertise in imaging and camera technology."
The event follows a busy autumn of international tech and industry gatherings in Tampere, including the UN forum on city AI and the Alihankinta manufacturing fair.
