More than 200 uninvited youths swarmed a 16-year-old’s house party in Tampere on Saturday, leaving the home heavily vandalised and personal items stolen.

More than 200 youths turned up at a 16-year-old’s house party in Tampere on Saturday night, far outnumbering the roughly 30 friends the host’s father says he invited after the event spread on social media. According to the father, the semi-detached home was badly damaged: plates and glasses were smashed, a mirror was thrown and broken, drywall was ripped and a door torn from its frame. Some items were flung into neighbours’ yards. Phones, cash and other belongings were taken; a laptop was later returned by another partygoer. The father filed a police complaint on Sunday and said the episode has left him disappointed and distrustful of local youngsters. Police interrupted the gathering on Saturday but made no arrests. Pasi Nieminen, chief crime inspector at the Inland Finland Police Department, said runaway house parties are a familiar problem and that destruction and theft often follow when events spiral out of control. He urged hosts to plan how to stop uninvited guests and to secure doors so a situation can be ended quickly. The account was reported by YLE, and local paper Aamulehti first flagged the incident. The episode follows earlier large youth gatherings and a rise in vandalism in Tampere, including a mass dispersal at Pyynikki Beach police dispersal at Pyynikki Beach and a wider rise in vandalism earlier this year.
