Tampere has received 519 applications for its summer job vouchers by Monday — about a third more than at the same point last year after the city doubled vouchers to 1,500 for 2026.

Demand for Tampere's summer job vouchers has surged, with more than 500 applications filed by Monday afternoon, Aamulehti reports.

By Monday the city had received 519 applications — roughly a third more than at the same point last year — after Tampere doubled the number of summer job vouchers to 1,500 for 2026. The city issued 747 vouchers last year and most were used; Petri Räsänen, the city official overseeing the scheme, says the pace is encouraging and that it’s good to see young people eager to work.

Applications cover a wide range of work, from shops and restaurants to daycares, IT firms, a veterinary clinic and farms. Vouchers support placements that run at least two weeks, with flexible weekly hours between 12 and 30; some placements have continued longer and even led to apprenticeship opportunities. Separate entrepreneurship vouchers have attracted 146 applications since their April 14 launch for 2005–2011 births (200 vouchers available, €350 each, applicants must attend start training), and the employment voucher for under-30s has drawn just over twenty applications so far. The city has been granted €2.9 million for youth recruitment support, funding up to 320 employment vouchers that cover half a hire’s wages for six months, capped at €1,500 per month.
