The prime observing window runs from August 10 to 14, and this year the Moon will not significantly hinder sightings, Ursa says. Perseid meteors come from debris left by comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle, which orbits the Sun every 133 years. They appear to radiate from the Perseus constellation, but meteors can be seen anywhere across the sky.
Ursa recommends finding a dark, clear spot and watching for extended periods. Lying on your back on a mat makes it easier to scan the sky. Dress warmly for cool nights and consult Taivaanvahti's Thousand Stars map to locate suitable observation sites.
