Aamulehti reports that arborists will fell a pine by the Pyynikki Lookout Tower in Tampere on Tuesday, March 10, using a crane after a condition assessment, with possible temporary traffic disruption.
Tampere city says the removal is based on a health assessment of the trees in the immediate vicinity of the Lookout Tower, and the operation will be carried out by arborists using a lifting crane. Work may cause temporary disruption to traffic as the crane is employed to bring down the tree.
Earlier this year in the Pyynikki area, other removals followed similar condition-based decisions, including four poorly conditioned birches felled around Ilomäen Open Space, with replacements planned. Last autumn, there was debate over plans to fell old pines in the Pyynikki Nature Reserve, with estimates of 70–90 trees and a petition opposing the plan. City officials said the autumn actions aimed to create space and light for pine saplings to promote natural regeneration.
