A new Kauppi social and health centre serving about 60,000 residents could be built on a 10,816 m² Tampere plot bought for €3 million, as part of a roughly €60 million project.

The Pirkanmaa welfare area's regional board will on Monday consider approving a €3 million purchase of a 10,816-square-metre plot from the city of Tampere to build a new Kauppi social and health centre, according to Tamperelainen.

The facility is planned at the intersection of Kuntokatu and Arvo Ylpön katu and would replace the current Tammelakeskus, serving a catchment of at least 60,000 residents in eastern Tampere. The site has 20,000 square metres of building rights. The total project is estimated at about €59.6 million. The investment plan for 2027–2030 already allocates €53.76 million, and the plot price would be added to the 2027 budget. Tampere will clear existing buildings on the site before construction. Work is targeted to begin in summer 2027 and finish in summer 2029 if permits and procurement proceed on schedule.

The new Kauppi centre will combine clinical services with a closer research, development, innovation and teaching model developed jointly by the Pirkanmaa welfare area and Tampere's higher education community.

The move follows earlier plans for a Kauppi university health centre intended to serve roughly 60,000 Tampere residents and open around 2029 earlier plan announced in August. A recent authorisation allowing Pirkanmaa wellbeing services to borrow for large property purchases cleared the way for acquisitions like this one borrowing authorisation.
