Pirkanmaa buys Kauppi plot in Tampere for €3 million to build €60 million university health centre
Pirkanmaa will buy a Kauppi plot in Tampere for €3 million to build a new university social and health centre costing about €60 million that is expected to serve roughly 60,000 residents.
Pirkanmaa Wellbeing Area will buy the Kauppi plot at Kuntokatu 3 in Tampere for €3 million to build a new university social and health centre, Tamperelainen reports. The centre is expected to serve more than 60,000 residents and will replace the existing Tammelakeskus. The project's total cost is estimated at about €59.6 million.
Buildings currently on the site will be demolished, with demolition work scheduled from 1 December 2026 to 31 May 2027. The plan aims to provide broader and more accessible social and health services across the area.
The decision follows the board's earlier consideration of the purchase last week and builds on plans that foresee the Kauppi centre opening by around 2029 as previously reported.
At the same meeting the board discussed a level-of-service decision for rescue services intended to secure emergency capacity as the region grows and its risk profile changes.
