Pirkanmaa Council to Consider Buying Central Fire Station in Online Meeting
Pirkanmaa wellbeing services county council will meet online on Monday 31 August at 17:00 to consider buying Tampere's central fire station and to review written responses to council initiatives.
Pirkanmaa wellbeing services county council will hold its first full meeting after the summer break online on Monday, 31 August 2026 at 17:00. The agenda is full: councillors will consider a proposal to buy the central fire station property and review written responses to council initiatives. Aamulehti's notice includes a link to follow the meeting live, and the story is illustrated with an archive photo from December 2025 by Jukka Ritola. The session follows the council's June session, which dealt with the rescue director appointment and major investment plans.
According to Aamulehti, the proposed purchase price is €6,662,500. The acquisition would also mean taking over the property's current lease terms: the monthly capital rent is €30,881.27 and the monthly maintenance rent is €22,353.60, with the lease ending at year-end.
Aamulehti adds that most of the station's future duties are expected to move to a new Nekala rescue and emergency care station when it opens. After the operational handover, the central station would require extensive renovation, with repair estimates ranging from €5 million to €11 million.
Monday evening's debate points, as reported by Aamulehti, include arguments in favour of keeping services at the central location and citing high call volumes, while others raise concerns about the complexity and cost of the required repairs and whether the building will be a good fit for Pirha's mission. Aamulehti further states that during the renovation period, some services would continue from an expanded wing rented from the city, which the city later plans to demolish.
