Rinki will close its eco-collection point in Pirkkala; residents are asked to use the replacement facility by the Prisma parking area at Kenkätie 4 for sorted packaging waste.

Rinki has announced it will close its eco-collection point in Pirkkala, the organisation said in a press release published via ePressi. Households should use the replacement facility by the Prisma parking area at Kenkätie 4 for sorted packaging waste.

Eco-collection points accept sorted household packaging free of charge: empty cardboard, plastic, glass and metal packaging, plus small metal items. Many sites also take paper and clothing in good condition. Discarded fishing gear containing plastic is accepted at 75 collection points around Finland.

Sorting instructions are available on the organisation's website and on stickers attached to the collection containers. Residents are reminded that other waste types, such as furniture, electrical appliances and packaging containing hazardous waste, must be taken to municipal facilities rather than left at the eco-collection point.

The organisation says recycling recovered from the collection points cuts demand for new raw materials and saves energy. Recycled plastics can be made into new bags, cardboard into paper cores, glass into bottles and metal into items such as bicycle frames. The organisation monitors container fill levels and cleanliness with scheduled checks and weighings, and encourages users to report full containers via an online form. Leaving waste beside full bins is prohibited and leads to extra clean-up costs.
