Police seize large alpha‑PVP haul from Aleksanterinkatu rental
Police arrested two people and seized a large quantity of the synthetic stimulant alpha‑PVP from a short-term rental on Aleksanterinkatu in central Tampere; one suspect will be presented for remand.
Police arrested two people on Friday and seized a substantial quantity of the synthetic stimulant alpha‑PVP from a short-term rental on Aleksanterinkatu in central Tampere. One suspect is to be presented for remand.
Investigating officer Ari Luoto of the Central Finland Police Department said the apartment had seen active traffic and that the amount seized was several times above the threshold for an aggravated drug crime; he declined to disclose exact figures. Two people were taken into custody during the operation. One has since been released.
Authorities suspect the property was used to sell alpha‑PVP. The seizure comes as detections of the drug rise across Finland. Tampere user groups have distributed home drug test kits to warn users about dangerous substitutes as earlier reporting noted, and patrols in the city centre were recently increased after dozens of drug seizures and related operations the force said last month.
A Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) study has shown elevated alpha‑PVP levels, especially in the Helsinki region, and authorities continue to investigate. Alpha‑PVP is a dangerous designer stimulant that can trigger severe hallucinations and aggressive behaviour.
