A police officer who pointed a gun at a man who opened the door of an unmarked police car in Tampere's Villilä is under prosecutorial review, with a decision on charges expected in the coming weeks.

On 12 August, video recorded by the man shows an officer emerging from the back of an unmarked police car in Tampere's Villilä, holding a firearm and ordering him to leave. The man is not suspected of any crime. YLE reported the footage.

The preliminary investigation into the officer's actions was completed earlier this autumn. The prosecutor's review follows an earlier probe opened after the video emerged and reporting that the man would not be charged in September.

The case is being handled by Tarmo Tanner, special prosecutor at the Office of the Prosecutor General's police crime unit. He said a decision on whether to press charges will be made in the coming weeks, and that no requests for further investigation have been submitted so far.

Possible charges under review include breach of official duty and unlawful threat. Under the Police Act, threatening with a firearm counts as use of a firearm in the same way as shooting.
