Tampere Resident Remanded in Alleged Year-Long Data Breach, University Investigates Ex-Employee
A Tampere man suspected of an aggravated data breach was remanded by the Pirkanmaa District Court and the case has been passed to the National Bureau of Investigation; prosecutors plan to bring charges on 25 February 2027.
The Pirkanmaa District Court on Friday ordered the man detained after a closed hearing. The case has been handed to the National Bureau of Investigation.
Prosecutors have set 25 February 2027 as the date for bringing charges; police say a crime report was filed on Monday and the suspect was arrested on Tuesday.
Authorities say the probe is at an early stage and will release more details when possible.
The suspect previously worked at the University of Tampere, which has confirmed police are investigating a former employee, and he has no prior convictions recorded in Pirkanmaa District Court, YLE reported.
Aggravated data breach carries a penalty of a fine or up to three years in prison.
