Repeat driver arrested for fifth drunk-driving offence during Midsummer controls
A repeat drunk driver was arrested for the fifth time within a year during Midsummer traffic controls in Central Finland.
Officers stopped ten people for drunk driving during the operation. One of them was already under a driving ban and registered over three per mille on a breath test.
Police imposed driving bans on 25 motorists in total: six for aggravated endangerment of traffic safety and 19 for conduct showing serious disregard for safety. Most bans were linked to excessive speeding or dangerous overtaking.
Water patrols ran alongside the road operation. In Pirkanmaa authorities recorded five cases of boating while intoxicated and Central Finland recorded one. Patrols also issued fines for missing life jackets and other safety breaches.
The action followed earlier intensified police patrols in Tampere city centre this spring, which targeted alcohol-related offences.
