Police stepped up traffic enforcement around schools in Central Finland and Pirkanmaa from 6–21 August, focusing on speeding, crosswalk rules and e-scooter use.
The Central Finland police issued 52 summary fines for speeding. Of those, 23 were handed out in Pirkanmaa. They also issued 35 additional speeding penalties. Three drivers received temporary driving bans. Officers imposed 25 fines for illegal mobile phone use while driving and 13 for failing to use required safety equipment. Crosswalk violations led to six penalties, and police recorded nine e-scooter infractions, most for carrying passengers.
Visible patrols aimed to calm traffic near schools and bolster pupils’ sense of safety. Police teams visited schoolyards and spoke with students as part of the campaign to prevent accidents and improve safety on school routes.
The operation follows earlier visible patrols in May that targeted youth safety and e-scooter checks, Tamperelainen reported when police increased city-centre patrols.
