Sandis Bar & Terrass will open on the Kauppakatu side of Sandbergin talo by Halloween, with a courtyard terrace seating about 400 people. The restaurant will be run by Jj Krogen Tampere Ab and will focus on Neapolitan pizzas, restaurateur Johanna Lax told Tamperelainen.
The company already runs Krogen Bar in Vaasa, which opened in 2024.
Sandbergin talo is a three-storey commercial building completed in stages in 1882, 1891 and 1897. It was designed in Neo-Renaissance style by Tampere city architect F. L. Calonius and built by apothecary and city council member Thomas Wilhelm Clayhills. The house was named after Wilhelm Sandberg, whose hardware store occupied the corner from 1882 until the 1970s.
The opening is one of several recent restaurant moves in the city centre. Recent additions include Suoma at the Finnish Club Suoma’s March opening, the move by Best Tampere Restaurant Onni and Leo into TampereMission in May, and the Sushibar + Wine city‑centre opening in May.
