Särkänniemi Forecasts More Than €500,000 Profit After €1 Million Loss
Särkänniemi amusement park in Tampere expects to finish the year with more than €500,000 in profit after recording losses of over €1 million last year, driven by higher visitor numbers and cost savings.
Särkänniemi amusement park in Tampere expects to finish the year with more than €500,000 in profit, a sharp turnaround after recording losses of over €1 million last year. The broadcaster YLE says the forecast reflects higher visitor numbers and cost savings.
CEO Mikko Hautasaari said visitor numbers and revenue are clearly above last year’s levels. Turnover from January to August was about nine percent higher than the same period a year earlier. Daily operations have become more cost-efficient, and the park expects the year to close in the black. Turnaround is dramatic.
Last year the park missed its visitor target by roughly ten percent and entered restructuring negotiations after the loss, but major events are still planned, including the Karmiva carnival in October and the Koiramäki Christmas programme.
This season Särkänniemi opened the new Konect roller coaster in May the coaster's May opening earlier this year.
The profit forecast comes amid broader legal and redevelopment questions around the site after a court overturned a €26m redevelopment decision this summer. A YLE reporter, Janne Jauhiainen, tested the Konect ride in May.
