Tram services were not disrupted after a rail grinding machine began smoking during overnight maintenance in Lentävänniemi, Aamulehti reports.
Responders from the Pirkanmaa rescue department arrived on Halkoniemenkatu just before 3 a.m. They found dry leaves had accumulated in the grinder's filters and were smouldering. One rescue unit extinguished the filters at the scene, and the department said the incident caused no harm to tram operations.
The incident follows a grinder spark at a Lempäälä steel plant, which prompted a rapid fire response but resulted in no injuries.
