On Tuesday evening a woodchip truck caught fire on the Pyhäjärventie ramp toward Hervanta in Tampere, Tamperelainen reported.
The Pirkanmaa Rescue Department said a small amount of woodchip dust had apparently landed on the engine and ignited. A single rescue unit extinguished the blaze with a little water. The driver was able to continue his journey, and traffic was largely unaffected because other vehicles could pass the stationary truck. The rescue department checked the vehicle and ensured it could proceed safely.
Aamulehti adds that the alarm was received at 6:15 p.m. and that by 6:45 p.m. the engine-compartment blaze had been extinguished. It also quotes duty fire chief Tomi-Pekka Olkkonen and reports that the truck arrived from the Jyväskylä direction, briefly impeded traffic, but that by 7:00 p.m. the rescue department said the vehicle remained drivable and continued its journey.
