Surplus-food retailer Fiksuruoka to open first Tampere store in Ratina in November
Surplus-food retailer Fiksuruoka will open its first Tampere shop in the Ratina shopping centre in November as part of a plan to double its physical stores to six by the end of the year.
Fiksuruoka will open its first Tampere store in the Ratina shopping centre in November. The surplus-food retailer plans to double its brick-and-mortar outlets from three to six by the end of the year. A new shop in Helsinki’s Itis is due at the start of October, followed by a Hyvinkää outlet in Willa shopping centre in December, Tamperelainen reports.
Its earlier physical stores opened in Espoo’s Lippulaiva and later in Vantaa’s Jumbo and Turku’s Skanssi.
CEO Juhani Järvensivu said online sales remain an important pillar, but physical shops have become an exceptionally effective growth engine for the company's expansion, according to a press release.
The company sells constantly changing surplus batches from manufacturers and retailers, including dry goods, chilled and frozen items, and mild alcoholic beverages. It says it has already saved more than 23 million kilos of food from waste.
Founded in 2016 and based in Espoo, the company also operates in the Netherlands and Belgium as Foodello. Public accounts show last year’s turnover was €14 million, with a €2.8 million loss.
The move follows other recent retail activity at Ratina, such as Your&More's opening earlier this month.
