The Tampereen Ratikan Pirkkala–Linnainmaa alliance says it will carry out land, utility and soil surveys in Linnainmaa and Pirkkala this autumn to gather baseline data for the second phase of the tramline's design.
The work follows earlier activity on the route, including overhead wiring in Härmälä and centre-of-road work on Nuolialantie.
Survey work starts in Linnainmaa around Mäentakusenkatu, where crews are measuring manholes and other utility access points. Most targets are in the roadway, but some inspections may take place on pedestrian and cycling paths. Motor traffic will be guided past sites by an arrow-board vehicle, and pedestrians and cyclists will be routed around work areas when necessary.
Most measurements will be carried out during daytime, though some tasks require evening and night work for safety and technical reasons. Night surveys are scheduled on Aitolahdentie and Mäentakusenkatu during week 42 (12–16 October), generally between about 20:00 and 06:00 on weekdays.
More extensive ground investigations will begin later in the autumn to collect soil information. Those geotechnical results will feed into detailed construction plans for track and road structures and help determine foundation methods for the Ruotula–Linnainmaa and Partola–Suuppa sections.
Work will be staged to minimise traffic impacts and noise, with traffic-management equipment or marshals deployed where needed. Construction of the second phase is targeted to begin in 2028 but remains conditional on securing state funding.
