Ground and Utility Surveys to Start This Autumn for Pirkkala–Linnainmaa Tram

Tamperelainen reports that ground, water-utility and soil investigations will begin this autumn in Linnainmaa and Pirkkala to support planning of the Tampere tram's second phase between Pirkkala and Linnainmaa. The work may cause temporary traffic changes.
Survey results will feed into construction planning for sections between Ruotula and Linnainmaa and between Partola and Suupa. In Linnainmaa, measurements around Mäentakusenkatu may affect motor-vehicle routes as well as pedestrian and bicycle paths. Utility well measurements will take place on road areas and, if necessary, on walking and cycling routes. Car traffic will be routed past work sites using an arrow wagon, and pedestrians and cyclists will be guided safely around the works.
Work on Aitolahdentie and Mäentakusenkatu next week will include night-time shifts. Temporary traffic arrangements could be needed. Deeper soil investigations begin later in the autumn to determine ground conditions so tram and street structures can be designed precisely.
Workers will aim to avoid major disruption and excess noise for residents. Traffic controllers and traffic equipment will be used when necessary.
The surveys follow earlier tram construction measures in the area, including the recent Nuolialantie traffic rerouting that shifted traffic for tram work and the installation of traffic lights at Hatanpää and Partola to replace temporary roundabouts earlier this month.
