Taidevaltakunta Opens Call for 2028 Biennale at Lahti Malva

Taidevaltakunta announced that it is inviting artists, duos, and collectives with ties to Kanta-Häme, Pirkanmaa, or Päijät-Häme to participate in the 2028 Taidevaltakunta biennale, to be presented at Malva in Lahti and across Päijät-Häme this summer. The biennale, organized by Hämeenlinna Art Museum, Tampere Art Museum and Lahti Visual Arts Museum Malva, aims to empower art by inviting diverse practices to explore the theme of Wonderful Life.

The theme invites personal experiences, utopian dreams, or hopeful futures, and encourages approaches that may also use humor or sarcasm to reflect on the everyday. The organizers stress that the concept can extend beyond individual perspectives to communal or shared life, asking what makes life meaningful and how art can help more people feel they live a wonderful life.

According to ePressi, the call is part of Taidevaltakunta’s effort to empower artists across the three partner museums and their regions, and it is presented as an 'artist and artwork call'.

Applications are open to individual artists, pairs, or collectives with regional ties to one of the three organizing museums’ areas, and selections will be made by a jury of arts and other field experts. The submission deadline is 2 August 2026, with applications via the provided guidelines on the Taidevaltakunta site and the ArtCurator form.
