Tampere Announces Foreign Student Tuition Fees Up to 102,300 Euros

“The most expensive degree is the forestry sector basic degree for forest machine operators, priced at 102,300 euros.” YLE reports. Tampere’s Tredu vocational college and local upper secondary schools will begin charging tuition for third-country students from next autumn, with the first charges applying to the 1 August 2026–31 July 2027 period. Tampere’s Economic Development and Competence Committee will decide the rates next Wednesday.

Tuition amounts vary by program. The forestry degree tops the list at 102,300 euros, roughly 34,100 euros per academic year, while the cheapest option is the business administration degree at 31,200 euros (about 10,400 euros per year). In Tampere’s high schools, tuition is 10,200 euros annually, or 13,200 euros for the IB track. The charges apply mainly to third-country students who arrive in Finland or stay on a student residence permit; permanent residents and exchange students are exempt. The fees are intended to cover the costs of delivering the education. Some municipalities fear they will not be able to attract foreign students after the reform. The change has already had consequences, with Finest Future, Peter Vesterbacka’s education company that has connected foreign students with Finnish polytechnics and high schools, being filed for bankruptcy.
