Tampere has approved the €12,000 purchase of an artwork documenting a kiosk that was demolished near the Tampere Art Museum.

Tampere has agreed to buy a commissioned artwork that documents the kiosk that stood between Pyynikintori and Amurinpuisto in front of the Tampere Art Museum. The purchase, approved in October, is for €12,000 tax-free, Tamperelainen reports.

The kiosk housed the Asian restaurant An Lac, which closed in April. The entire structure was removed to make way for the museum's expansion.

An expert visual arts working group proposed the acquisition and the museum services director authorised the commission. The city will pay from its investment funds on the grounds that the work records a locally significant building and streetscape for the municipal collection.

The purchase comes as the museum undergoes a larger rebuilding and expansion project planned as a three-year, €36 million renovation, and follows the selection of Skanska to carry out the renovation after a procurement appeal.
