Tampere Eco-Points Under Enhanced Camera Surveillance

Some Tampere Rinki recycling points have begun enhanced camera surveillance to deter repeated misuse, Aamulehti reports. The move follows a pilot started in Vantaa and aims to curb issues like furniture and construction waste being dumped at the sites.

Rinki’s regional manager Harri Patanan says most locations stay clean, but a few spots repeatedly accumulate waste that does not belong at the eco-points. The company adds that the upgraded surveillance could help identify offenders and, if needed, bill cleanup costs or report violations to authorities. Rinki notes that eco-points are meant for household packaging waste and may also collect paper or textiles, but some sites continue to attract furniture, mixed waste, electrical and electronic waste, and construction debris.
