Tampere greenlights Tohloppi lakeside parks with accessible pier and limited shore infill

New shoreline park plans for Lake Tohloppi were approved by Tampere’s Urban Services Committee on March 31, 2026.

The scheme creates a green, urban-style southern shore park partly on planned shore infill and partly on the former Tohlopinranta street, whose new alignment will run north of the site beside the railway. The park is designed to link walking and cycling routes around the lake, include groups of mixed-species trees, meadows, rock features and standing deadwood to boost biodiversity, and feature an accessible pier with benches and table seating that also eases winter ice access. The draft general green plan was displayed in November 2025; officials received seven pieces of feedback, chose not to change the plan and published responses in a separate report.

Shoreline extension will be limited — up to about 15 metres at most, usually only a few metres — and a water permit will be sought before work begins. Work is expected in winter 2026–2027. Final landscaping will be timed to surrounding housing construction and decided through annual investment plans.

Adjacent green plans for the Mediapolis side were also approved, covering Ransunpuisto, where grazing will continue, and Harjun Pappilanranta, which will be preserved as grove forest with standing deadwood retained and only hazardous trees removed along routes.
