A Tampere developer’s mobile game Katujahti reached No. 3 on Finland’s App Store adventure chart within days of its iPhone release, despite the developer running no advertising.

Jussi Kallioniemi, a developer from Tampere, has released the mobile game Katujahti for iPhone, and within days the title climbed to third place in Finland’s App Store adventure charts, Aamulehti reports.

Katujahti turns the simple idea of capturing city streets by walking into a surprising hit. Players register streets as they walk through towns and municipalities. Kallioniemi says he did not run any advertising for the release and remains astonished by the response. About 100 enthusiastic testers helped polish the launch with feedback before it went live.

The game is available now for iPhone. An Android version is currently under review and should appear on Google Play within about 7 to 14 days. A test build for Android can be obtained by contacting Kallioniemi via the email listed on the game's website, and the developer expects to roll out frequent updates in the coming weeks.
