Tampere Opens Tender for 19 Electric Articulated Buses on Plusbus Route 7

According to ePressi, on 6 May the Tampere Region Public Transport Committee decided to open a procurement for Plusbus route 7, calling for a daily service operated with new electric articulated buses. The tender estimates a need for about 19 buses plus additional reserve vehicles to cover charging cycles and maintenance. The procurement specifies that all vehicles must be new electric articulated buses, aligning the route with the region's broader shift toward electric public transport.
Officials also updated the service concept manual to better reflect how the service will be delivered, the procurement requirements and the characteristics of the fleet. The committee says these revisions do not change the service's core principles or objectives.
Procurement rules were adjusted to support a decision to permit two separate operators and to structure the competition specifically for route 7. The committee approved both the tender launch and the concept manual changes at its 6 May meeting.
The decision sets clearer technical and operational expectations for potential bidders and moves the Plusbus network closer to full electric operation in the Tampere region.
