Tampere Orders Up to 200 New Cupboard Beds for Three Daycare Centres After Safety Review
Tampere will replace wall-mounted cupboard beds in three daycare centres after a city safety review, ordering up to 200 beds from Woodi Oy.
Tampere is replacing wall-mounted cupboard beds in three daycare centres, Tesoma, Etelä-Hervanta and Sammon, after a city safety review. Property director Virpi Ekholm approved the procurement on Thursday 16 July, YLE reported.
Woodi Oy of Kuopio was the only company to submit a timely bid, so the beds will be purchased from them. The first non-binding order covers 166 beds and can be increased to a maximum of 200. The procurement, worth about EUR 184,000, includes dismantling and disposal of the existing beds and replacement of linen cupboards.
Tampere's city facilities services flagged a risk that children could become trapped between a raised bed and the wall. The safety issue drew attention after a two-year-old in Vantaa was later fatally injured in such an accident. Pirkanmaa recorded two similar non-fatal incidents last year in Ylöjärvi and Tampere.
The decision follows earlier coverage of the same faults and the city's subsequent review earlier reporting on the safety faults.
