Tampere Region Waste Board Proposes Per-Cubic-Metre Drop-Off Fees

The regional waste management board proposes charging households and small businesses by the cubic metre for waste drop-offs, with a 0.5 m³ minimum and new per-type tariffs set to take effect on 15 June 2026 if approved.

The City of Tampere says the regional waste management board has proposed charging small-scale waste bringers by the cubic metre at waste stations, setting a 0.5 m³ minimum. The board placed the proposed changes on public display on 8 April 2026, and the new tariff system is due to take effect on 15 June 2026 once the board gives final approval.

Small-scale waste bringers — households and small businesses that deliver their own waste by car, trailer or van to a waste station or centre — would be billed by the actual volume and type of waste rather than the current two-cubic-metre step system. Currently, mixed loads are charged at the rate of the most expensive waste type; under the proposal billing would move to 1.0 cubic-metre increments after the 0.5 m³ minimum. The change aims to encourage better sorting and to simplify self-service payments.

Proposed reception prices include mixed waste and wood at €12 per cubic metre (VAT 25.5%), treated wood at €36 per cubic metre (VAT 25.5%), and soil, concrete and brick at €5 per cubic metre (VAT 25.5%). The regional board covers Tampere and 16 neighbouring municipalities. The full proposal is available at tampere.fi/jatehuoltolautakunta and on participating municipalities' electronic noticeboards.
