Tampereen Vesi hikes water and wastewater prices from 1 January 2027

The utility announced in a press release that from 1 January 2027 water consumption charges will rise 9%, wastewater charges 14% and average monthly basic fees, which depend on meter size, about 12%.

Unit prices published for 1 January show drinking water at €1.68 per cubic metre excluding VAT, €2.11 including VAT (25.5%), and wastewater at €3.06 per cubic metre excluding VAT, €3.84 including VAT. Combined, the charge will be €4.74 per cubic metre excluding VAT, €5.95 including VAT.

Basic monthly fees will vary by meter size. Customers with 15–20 mm meters will pay €10.37 per month for water and €11.89 for wastewater excluding VAT; 100–150 mm meters will face €237.13 and €260.05 per month respectively. The company estimates a 150-square-metre single-family home using about 180 m³ a year would see total water and wastewater bills rise by roughly €10 per month.

The utility says the rises are needed to secure 24/7 access to clean drinking water and continuous sewer collection and treatment. Wastewater treatment moved in 2025 to a regional central plant with stronger purification and lower environmental load, and planning has begun for a new water treatment facility alongside ongoing infrastructure renewals.

Pirkkala will base its usage charges on Tampere's prices under the existing operating agreement, applying a multiplier of 1.2 to drinking water and 1.1 to wastewater. Basic monthly fees are the same in both municipalities, and even after the rise the combined supply and treatment price remains under one cent per litre compared with national levels.

The change follows the company's October decision to introduce a €3 fee for mailed paper bills.
