Tampere to cut Sunday tram frequency to 10 minutes in summer 2027
Tampere plans to reduce tram frequency to 10 minutes on Sundays in summer 2027 and cut feeder bus line 18 to 30-minute Sunday service, Tamperelainen reports.
Under the proposed summer 2027 service plan, Sunday tram intervals in Tampere would be reduced to 10 minutes and feeder bus line 18 would move to 30-minute Sunday runs, Tamperelainen reports. Summer 2026 boarding figures show about 28,300 boardings on Sundays compared with 38,700 on Saturdays and 55,400 on weekdays. Sundays are noticeably quieter. Line 18, which links Atala and the Kauppi campus, would shift from 15-minute to 30-minute Sunday service.
To help balance finances, the plan would extend the summer timetable into the first week of the winter season, with winter 2027–28 services set to begin on Wednesday 11 August 2027 when basic and upper secondary schools reopen. Officials estimate the timing change will save about €120,000 without materially affecting passenger growth.
The proposal is part of wider measures aimed at closing a large transit funding gap the transport board's September plan to raise fares and cut services. It follows earlier summer service reductions on suburban routes introduced in 2026.
