Tampere to Redraw Polling Districts, Shrinking Largest from 6,000 to 4,500 Voters
City officials have proposed redrawing Tampere’s polling district boundaries before next spring’s parliamentary elections, shrinking some of the largest districts from about 6,000 voters to roughly 4,500; the city board will consider the plan on Monday.
Some of Tampere’s largest polling districts would shrink from about 6,000 eligible voters to roughly 4,500, easing election logistics. City officials have proposed redrawing polling district boundaries across Tampere ahead of next spring’s parliamentary elections; the city board will consider the plan on Monday, Tamperelainen reports.
The central election committee submitted the proposal on Tuesday, targeting the biggest changes in Vuores, Lielahti and Lamminpää. Vuores polling district 62 would be split into Vuores A and Vuores B. Lielahti 39 would be divided into Niemenranta and Niemen. In both cases the schools currently used as polling places would remain the same. Lamminpää 37 would be abolished and its residents reassigned to Ikuri A, Tohloppi and Kaarila. Some voters would begin using Ikuri's daycare and school; others would use the Tesoma school building or the Kaarila school building. It's a notable reshuffle for those neighbourhoods.
Planned adjustments also include combining Leinola and Holvasti into a single Leinola district and moving part of Kaleva 15 into Saukonpuisto 14. That change would shift some voters from Sammon central upper secondary school to the Teiskontie school building. Two plots would move from Lielahti 39 to Santalahti 4, switching the polling place from Lielahti school to Tampere International School in Amuri. Smaller boundary tweaks are proposed for the city centre, Amuri, Armonkallio, Nekala, Härmälä, Ikuri, Tohloppi, Viiala, Kaukajärvi and Hervanta, while most polling places would remain unchanged.
The total number of polling districts would remain at 68. If the city council approves the plan on Monday, the changes would take effect on 1 January 2027.
