Salhojankadun Pub in Tampere's Tammela neighbourhood has been named the 37th best bar in Europe, the only Finnish venue to make the top 100. The European Bar Guide gave the longstanding pub a score of 9.3 out of 10 after assessing around 1,600 candidates and praised its authentic, retro atmosphere. The guide said a visit feels "like walking back into a 1970s London pub", with brown tones, a corner bar, beer adverts and a dartboard. Founded in 1969, Salhojankadun bills itself as Finland's oldest British-style pub. Budapest's famed ruin bar Szimpla Kert took the top spot on the list. Tamperelainen reported the ranking. This continues a run of Tampere venues earning recognition: Vinni on Hämeenkatu was recently named Finland’s best wine bar.
