Tapola Oy is buying Tampere meat processor Yrjö Wigren's business; Wigren will stay as an independent brand and production will remain in Tampere, with the deal expected to close by mid-November.

The Tampere daily Tamperelainen quoted Tapola saying, "When we started thinking about what kind of new home would be best for Wigren, one thing was clear." Tapola Oy is buying Yrjö Wigren Oy's business in Tampere, with the transaction expected to close by mid-November.

The deal brings together two long-standing local meat processors. Yrjö Wigren was founded in 1917 and Tapola in 1953; between them they represent more than 180 years of history, and Wigren is set to turn 110 next year. Wigren will remain an independent brand alongside Tapola. Its products will continue to be made in Tampere and existing recipes will stay the same. Staff tied to Wigren's operations will transfer to Tapola as retained employees.

Tapola says the acquisition should lift its turnover to about €22–23 million by 2027 and make the company a workplace for more than 100 food industry professionals once the deal is final. CEO Kristian Tapola called the purchase "much more than a business deal" and said it is an honour and responsibility to carry on Wigren's nearly 110-year story. Yrjö Wigren chairman Lasse Jokinen said the sellers chose Tapola because it is a fourth-generation family company that shares their values and commitment to tradition. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions.
