Tampere University Hospital's Eye Centre mistakenly mailed letters containing other patients' personal information to a small number of ophthalmology patients, YLE reports.

Pirkanmaan hyvinvointialue (Pirha) says fewer than five patients received erroneous letters. Those letters included information on up to 50 patients in total. Pirha is contacting every affected patient by phone or mail and has suspended sending appointment and feedback letters to the groups involved while the error is corrected. The organisation attributes the fault to recent changes to systems and processes used to dispatch outpatient appointment notices and treatment feedback, and has notified the Data Protection Ombudsman's office about the incident.

The issue comes as Tays moves appointments and reminders to the Suomi.fi and OmaPirha portals the planned move of Tays appointment services to Suomi.fi and OmaPirha.

It follows earlier small-scale patient data mix-ups in Pirkanmaa screening services, highlighting recurring privacy concerns in the region's health records handling a previous mammography records mix-up in Pirkanmaa.
