Viita-akatemia writers gathered at Idman Villa in Tampere on Saturday 5 September to launch their anthology Vain omaan käyttöön, Aamulehti's Mervi Janhunen reported. About 50 people attended the event for the 2024–2027 class. The book collects work by 14 students from the Tampere Region Workers' Institute writing school, including short stories, poems and brief prose pieces. Teacher Maria Tyni delivered a speech, Lyyti Janhunen played the piano, and Sini-Satu Kuninkala interviewed three writers before the evening opened up to mingling and book signings.
The same report covered several other local gatherings. On 5 September, MSL-Tampere's päre (bark) basket throwers ended a 20-year run at the yard of Kintus Rientola in Hämeenkyrö, returning to their starting point to throw baskets and recall staging world championships at Pori Market. Jouni Koskela recalled a 2009 Satakunnan Kansa headline that described the flying basket as soaring like a newborn swan. On 10 September the Pensioners' Association Parkano branch held its traditional outdoor day at Käenkoskikeskus, with about 40 participants enjoying coffee, sauna, walking and games, outgoing chair Jussi said. That same day nearly 80 residents and staff from Jyllin Kodin took part in an Olympic-themed sports day at Ikaalinen athletics field, featuring a torch relay, ball throw, shot put, weight pull and relay races; everyone was invited to compete or cheer from the stands.
