A section of Kuurilantie in Valkeakoski partly collapsed this morning after water eroded the ground beneath the road, closing the road; no injuries were reported and crews have blocked traffic while repairs begin.

A stretch of Kuurilantie in Valkeakoski near the Pirkanmaa–Kanta-Häme border partially collapsed this morning, closing the road.

The Pirkanmaa rescue department told YLE the damage measured roughly one metre by 1.5 metres and was caused by water eroding the soil beneath the asphalt.

According to Tamperelainen, the collapse was triggered by an under-road culvert giving way. It reports the hole is about 7 metres long and 2 metres wide near address 388.

A member of the public alerted authorities. No injuries or property damage were reported.

Crews isolated the area and blocked traffic. Tamperelainen adds that a temporary fix is being carried out by filling the subsidence with crushed stone, while contractors assess whether the culvert needs to be replaced. Officials at the Regional Centre for Economic Development of Central Finland said work began right away, and that the road may require a full closure and detours for the next phase.

The road owner’s contractor arrived at about 12:45 to continue work, and the rescue department declared the response complete.
