16-Storey 'Tullin Mercurius' Tower Proposed for Tullikamarin aukio
A 16-storey residential tower, Asunto Oy Tampereen Tullin Mercurius, is proposed for the north edge of Tullikamarin aukio, with plans to reshape the plaza for events and include an underground light-rail power station.
Asunto Oy Tampereen Tullin Mercurius, a 16-storey residential tower with a lower annex, is proposed for the north edge of Tullikamarin aukio. The scheme traces back to a 2018 design and implementation competition won by the entry Tullin hallit from YH Kodit Oy.
The aim is to reshape the plaza into a more pleasant urban space and a flexible events venue. Plans include an underground power supply station for the light rail, with room for future expansion.
Road links to nearby parking garages were considered but deemed too costly. Access to Tullintori and the Attila parking facilities will therefore remain unchanged, while service arrangements for the new buildings are planned to fit with Pinninkatu’s pedestrian and cycling flows.
After a public display period, the plan will go to the city board and then to the council for final approval, provided the required implementation agreements are in place. Local paper Tamperelainen reported the proposal.
