208 Stand in Tampere Parish Council Race as Young Candidates Rise
208 candidates are contesting Tampere's parish councils and 202 are standing for the joint church council on 15 November, with a notable rise in young hopefuls compared with 2022.
Lists from the Evangelical Lutheran parishes of Tampere show a clear rise in younger candidates, Aamulehti reports. A total of 208 people are contesting parish councils; 202 are standing for the joint church council. Both figures are up from 167 and 153 respectively in 2022.
Twenty-eight candidates are aged 30 or under, up from 14 four years ago; eight are under 21. Turnout was 12.7 percent in 2022.
Advance voting runs from 3 to 7 November. Voting day is 15 November. Church members who turn 16 by election day may vote.
Voters in Tampere will mark a joint church council choice on a white ballot and parish council candidates on an orange ballot. Many candidates appear on both lists.
Tampere parishes plan to open an online candidate guide on 7 October to help voters decide. The announcement follows earlier reporting on candidate numbers and a previous item on voting arrangements.
