Man sentenced to five years for attempted murder after Frenckell plank attack
A 32-year-old man was sentenced to five years in prison for attempted murder after an early August attack in Frenckell that left the victim with life-threatening head injuries.
Pirkanmaa District Court found that Toni Valtteri Ruokosuo used a wooden plank taken from a construction site to strike the victim multiple times on the head and upper body. The blows caused life-threatening injuries, including skull fractures and interrupted breathing.
Prosecutors said the assault continued while the victim was unconscious and that the defendant made verbal death threats. The court ordered €33,000 in compensation to the victim. The verdict is not final, and the defendant has expressed his dissatisfaction with the sentence, according to YLE.
The attack is among a string of recent violent incidents in the Tampere region, including a brutal October beating at Tampere Central Square and a stabbing in Härmälä that led prosecutors to seek a four-year sentence.
