There are 14 community plot areas across Tampere, with one-year plots available this year in seven locations. Plot sizes range from about 20 to 200 square metres. Rents are modest but vary by plot type and rental period; current rates are listed on the Tampere 4H Association website, which also handles bookings and rentals. Natural growing methods are encouraged on the plots — pesticide use is prohibited.
The city's information pages list other urban gardening options, including allotment gardens and community cultivation sites run by various organisations. Applicants may choose one area to apply for; if demand exceeds supply, plots are allocated by lottery. Applications are submitted using the 4H Association's form.
