Bin collection days across Pirkanmaa may shift in October

Collection days for waste bins across Pirkanmaa may change in October, Aamulehti reports. The regional waste company, Pirkanmaan Jätehuolto, is bringing in new transport partners and adjusting truck routes to make operations more efficient and to reduce costs.

All bins will still be emptied even if the weekday or week changes. Customers do not need to contact customer service. After a transition period, transport manager Miia Siukola said the emptying rhythm will settle into fixed days.

The operator is also shifting to lower-emission transports, with refuse trucks running on renewable diesel or biogas. About 14,500 bins are emptied each day, and the company works with 18 private transport partners.

Areas affected include mixed waste in South, East and West Tampere, Juupajoki, Orivesi, Ruovesi, Sastamala’s Mouhijärvi and Suodenniemi, and Viljakkala; mixed waste containers in Kangasala, Lempäälä, Pälkäne, Tampere and Vesilahti; and plastic packaging collections in South and East Tampere, Kangasala, Lempäälä, Orivesi, Pirkkala, Pälkäne and Vesilahti.

The change comes amid other local waste-service shifts this year, including the end of pipe-based waste collection in Vuores earlier this spring the end of Vuores' pneumatic system and the temporary bin overflows that followed temporary-bin overflow in Vuores.
