Koivisto complex to reopen for evening community use after €19.5m renovation

A major renovation of Koivisto’s school, library and youth facilities on Lehvänkatu is scheduled to begin in August 2028 and finish in May 2030. The updated spaces are due to reopen for school use and evening community activities in August 2030. Costs are estimated at about €19.5 million.

The city's needs assessment proposes refurbishing both school buildings according to Tampere’s latest school design guidelines. It would replace structures and technical systems and configure learning spaces for up to 475 pupils, including pre-primary education.

Kivikoulu would house eight teaching rooms. Tiilikoulu would include twelve classrooms, staff facilities and a shared canteen and gym, while the library and youth spaces would remain in their current locations.

The project aims for A-level energy efficiency through renewable energy and low-carbon construction, and will include new trees, sheltered outdoor areas and 170 bicycle parking spaces, some covered.

The city board will consider the needs assessment and the temporary premises plan on Monday. Investments of €17.45 million are proposed for 2027–2030, with an estimated total cost of about €19.5 million.

School services will move to former Tredun premises on Koivistontie during the works. Designers will seek cost-saving measures.
