Construction of Rauma’s New Railway Stop Starts April 2026, Aiming for Spring 2027 Services

Construction of a new passenger stop in Rauma — intended to serve as the town’s future railway station — will start in April 2026 and is scheduled for completion by the end of the year, the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency (Väylävirasto) said.

The project will add platforms to the existing line, new pedestrian connections and lighting, and upgrade safety equipment and passenger information systems. Work also includes a new Leikarinkatu road and a park-and-ride area north of Hakunintie to improve local access to the rail link.

"The Rauma stop is an important step towards smoother and more sustainable mobility in the Satakunta region. The project raises the level of public transport services and gives residents and businesses new travel options," said project manager Juha Sillanpää of Väylävirasto.

NRC Group Finland Oy will act as the building contractor, with the project budgeted at about €3.8 million; the City of Rauma will cover the construction costs.

The stop's completion is intended to enable passenger services on the Rauma–Kokemäki–Tampere corridor, with operators aiming to begin services in spring 2027. City officials expect the new stop to improve regional accessibility, support sustainable travel and strengthen Rauma’s role in western Finland’s transport network.
