Intercity train service between Tampere and Rauma is scheduled to begin in May 2027, with five to six weekday departures including two direct trains.

Intercity services between Tampere and Rauma are due to start in May 2027, Tamperelainen reported.

The agreement with operator VR is not yet final. Traficom lawyer Meeri Niinisalo told Yle she expects the contract to be completed early in the year and does not see a risk of delay.

The route will use Intercity rolling stock already running on the Pori–Tampere line. Planned weekday service would offer five to six daily departures: two direct trains between Rauma and Tampere, while the others would require a transfer at Kokemäki to trains running between Pori and Tampere. The timetable envisages the first departure from Rauma shortly after 5:00 a.m. and the last return from Tampere after 11:00 p.m.

Work to restore passenger service on the corridor predates the plan. Construction of a new Rauma passenger stop began in April 2026 to ready the halt for spring 2027 services, and NRC Group has since started on-site work to build the halt as part of the project.
