Electrical Fault Halts Trams at Koskipuisto, Causes Morning Delays

Tram services at Koskipuisto in central Tampere were halted Saturday morning after a loud pop and a brief plume of smoke, Tamperelainen reported. The interruption affected Nysse routes through the city centre, causing delays for commuters.

The Pirkanmaa Rescue Department said a failure in the electrical components of a tram line pole caused the incident. It described the event as not a major accident, and crews worked to repair the damage. Nysse estimated passenger delays between 07:00 and 10:30 and urged travellers to follow live service updates for the latest information on the repairs.

According to Aamulehti, Line 1 was stopped at Hämeensilta. Aamulehti adds that Line 1 is running only between Lentävänniemi and Santalahti, while Line 3 operates from Hervantajärvi to the Kalevanrinne stop, with central sections out of service requiring bus substitutions. Aamulehti reports that operational manager Vesa Rauhala said: “If there is no power, the tram won’t run.” The outlet also notes a correction from Sept. 19 at 08:47 clarifying that the repairs are being carried out by Tampereen Ratikan’s maintenance unit rather than Nysse’s maintenance unit.

Recent tram-line electrical work and earlier overhead-line damage have also disrupted services in the same area. That includes upgrade work at Hatanpään valtatie near Koskikeskus and an earlier overhead-line fault that temporarily halted services earlier this year.
