Hervanta has been named District of the Year 2026; the city will celebrate with free cake, magic and workshops at Hervanta Leisure Centre on 28 August.

The City of Tampere will serve free cake for 300 people at Hervanta Leisure Centre on Friday 28 August from 17:00 to 19:00 to celebrate Hervanta being named District of the Year 2026. The event is free and open to everyone. Everyone is welcome.

"Hervanta's strength is its diverse and active community," says Sini Lempinen, district development coordinator, noting the area hosts many associations, educational institutions and neighbourhood groups. Festivities begin at 17:30 with magician Marko and include close-up magic, character balloons for children and a poetry workshop run by Sanataideyhdistys Yöstäjä ry, where participants will create a poem for Hervanta. Attendees will also receive Hervanta canvas bags while supplies last. The gathering follows safe-space principles.

Organisers will present a new meeting-place programme, coordinated by Setlementti Tampere Ry, that starts later this autumn. Jaakko Laurila of the Kaikkien Tampere development programme said the upcoming meeting place will give Hervanta residents a low-threshold way to meet, take part in activities and spend time together. The celebration includes partners such as Kuurosokeat ry, A-Kilta and Lujaksi ry, and Hervanta is a focus area in the city's 2026–2029 district development plan.
