Tampere Opens Free Community Hubs in Hervanta and Kaukajärvi for Socialising and Activities
The City of Tampere has opened two free community meeting places in Hervanta and Kaukajärvi as part of its Tampere for All programme, providing low‑threshold spaces for socialising, group activities and events.
The City of Tampere says it has opened two free community meeting places in Hervanta and Kaukajärvi as part of its Tampere for All development programme, offering residents low‑threshold spaces for socialising and activities.
The Tampere for All programme was launched earlier this year with €1.9 million to expand such community spaces launched in March.
Setlementti Tampere coordinates the hubs, which are intended for informal gatherings, group activities and events. "We want to create spaces that respond to residents’ needs and are suitable for informal socialising, group activities and various events," says Jaakko Laurila, Programme Manager of Tampere for All.
Local residents and organisations can organise activities. Setlementti coordinator Tiina Lindgren gave examples: board games, crafts, exercise, singing, music, art performances, quizzes and peer support.
The sites include a well-equipped kitchen, coffee and occasionally porridge or surplus food. Visitors can join a naming competition on site or via Setlementti Tampere’s website (Finnish only). Entry is free.
