Koivisto complex to close for €19.5m renovation; pupils, library and youth services move to former Tredu
The Koivisto school complex will be closed for renovation from August 2028 to May 2030, with pupils, the library and youth services moving to the former Tredu building on Koivistontie 31.
All school, library and youth centre activities will relocate to the former Tredu building at Koivistontie 31 while work is carried out on the Koivisto complex. The move is scheduled from August 2028 until May 2030, according to Tamperelainen.
The project will modernise the 1928 stone school and the brick wings completed in 1986 and 2001. Technical systems will be replaced, structures repaired and interior spaces updated for contemporary learning.
When work finishes the complex will continue under the name Koivistonkylä-talo and retain capacity for 475 pupils, including pre-primary education. The library and youth facilities will remain and be designed for evening use by residents and local groups.
Initial planning starts this year and the preliminary cost estimate is about €19.5 million. The city board has asked planners to seek ways to reduce expenses during the detailed design stage.
